Olwen Seear

We are sad to announce the death on 3rd April 2025 of Lifetime Windmiler Olwen Seear, much loved by many Windmilers over decades. Olwen joined the Windmilers in 1985 and her involvement in the Windmiler Coaching area is impossible to overstate. She built on the work of the early Windmiler coaches and was the key person in developing our coaching structure that has led to what is in place today. Many of the coaches who were to be involved in future years took their first coaching steps under Olwen’s guidance. She established the Saturday morning sessions at the Windmiler Park Track in 1993, coaching Saturday track sessions herself every week for decades. Many will remember Olwen’s seemingly endless plank exercises after a hard track session, and some experienced ‘Olwen’s elbow’ on the sports massage table too. She also created many of the sessions in the club’s quarterly training schedule, published in the printed Waffle magazine that was circulated at the Windmill. Olwen also started an early morning running group at 6:30am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the ‘Dawn Raiders’, running 6-8 miles before work. The club awarded her lifetime membership in 2015.

In particular, many Windmilers past and present will only have got where they did on their running journey due to Olwen’s hard work, dedication and skill and we are very thankful for her contributions to the club.

Funeral details will be made available when we have them. Contact club secretary Anne.
