Thinking of joining us?
We are a running club with a multisport section. We have about 500-600 members, all of whom are runners and up to 150 also participate in swimming, cycling and triathlon sports. We welcome new members of all ability. We pride ourselves on being a social community of runners, cyclists and swimmers who promote inclusivity for everyone. Whether you’re looking to get fit, run socially with like minded people, improve your performance or even do your first triathlon, the Windmilers offers something for everyone.
Want to renew or rejoin the club?
We’re always delighted to welcome back Windmilers after a break, no matter how long. If it’s been a couple of years or more, please fill out the membership form (to make sure we have your most up to date contact details) and send it in using the ‘Contact the membership team’ button.
Benefits of joining a club
Being part of a club offers a huge host of benefits, beyond just training. Explore our web pages to find out what we do.
Joining the club gives members access to all our training sessions, email newsletters, reduced race entry fees (with England Athletics registration or British Triathlon membership) plus discounts at a number of retailers.
The majority of our members are “first claim” Windmilers. This means you can race for the club in road running and cross-country events. If you’ve previously been a member of another club that will remain your first claim club. So if you want to run for the Windmilers, just ask the Membership Secretary about how to transfer your first claim to Windmilers. We also welcome second claim members.
Our club is affiliated with England Athletics as our primary affiliation. We are also registered with British Triathlon as a ‘single discipline’ club, meaning that we are predominantly dedicated to another sport, athletics in our case.
Affiliation with sports bodies provides public liability insurance for club activities plus ongoing support from those organisations.

Membership fees April 2024 - March 2025
We have a fixed membership year which runs from April to March; fees are reviewed annually at the start of the year.
If you apply to join between 1st January and 31st March (2024) you can get up to 15 months’ club membership for the price of 12, you will pay your annual fee in April 2024 and your membership will run to March 2025.
The England Athletics registration year also runs from April to March. The price of EA registration is £19 for 2024-25. This is optional (except for participation in the Surrey Cross Country league and some other races that you can take part in through the club).

FAQs
Can I try the club before I join? – Yes, we recommend you try a session before you decide the club is for you. If you like it, you can join formally. Please contact our enthusiastic membership reps, Claire & Sally for more details on which sessions would be good to try, or if you have any questions about the club and what we do.
Can I just turn up/do I have to book? – Please contact the membership team if you would like to try a session.
What is the best session for me to try? – All training sessions are open for newcomers, with some limited availability for paid swimming sessions. Visit the training schedule page to see the options for social running, speed and hill training, athletics track training, club cycling and swimming.
Will I be too slow? – We make sure that no one is left behind. If you’re really unsure, the best thing is to speak to the membership team about which session would suit you. We don’t currently offer a couch to 5k programme or teach beginners to swim or cycle.
Is there anywhere to leave my things?
On a Sunday: Not formally, but you may find that the coach or other runners are able to help.
On a Saturday: You can leave kit within sight beside the track.
Midweek: If we start indoors at Belgrave Hall, the building is locked while we are out training.
How do I pay?
Once we have got your membership form, we create a record on our database and send you a payment request with a link to pay online.
Why does the payment request come from England Athletics?
Our club database is hosted on the EA portal and we use their payment system for all our membership payments (whether or not you have asked for EA registration).
Register with England Athletics
Registration with England Athletics gives you a reduction on most race entries and could well therefore save you money.
Many races, including cross-country, require you to be EA-registered to enter, and even in other ‘open’ races, without England Athletics membership you will not be eligible to ‘score’ for the team in league competitions
Click here for full details of EA registration benefits and contact the membership team if you would like to register.
Join Triathlon England
Many club members participate in swimming and cycling as well as running and many find that membership of British Triathlon gives valuable benefits.
